What is the VITAL Initiative?
The Veterans Integration to Academic Leadership (VITAL) Initiative's mission is to provide world-class healthcare and improve the overall mental health of Veterans, while supporting their successful integration into college and university campuses through:
Promotion of positive cohesion between Veterans and the entire learning community through campus and community clinical education and training
Seamless access to VA healthcare services and on-campus clinical counseling
Providing efficient care coordination of all availalbe services
VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) and VITAL Initiative:
The VAAAHS VITAL Initiative is a partnership between VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System and local colleges and universities.
We strive to enhance academic retention and success through:
On-campus clinical care and coordination
Improving understanding of Veterans' unique strengths and challenges through education and training
Collaborating with your local VA Medical Center, Veterans Benefit Administration, campus faculty and staff, and community resources

Connecting to VA affiliates: Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) and Vocational Rehabilitation Services
For Academic Faculty/Staff:
Education for college/university staff about Military & Veteran culture
Consultation regarding Veteran-specific issues, including common readjustment concerns that may impact performance and academic success
Assist with communication with VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System and college/ university staff about Veteran concerns, resources and needs

VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System Telemental Health Mission:To provide evidence based mental health services to Veterans in circumstances where distance separates those receiving services and those providing services.
