Detroit and Ann Arbor VA Medical Centers to Remain OPEN to Patients on National Day of Mourning - By Executive Order, President Trump identified Wednesday, December 5, 2018 as a National Day of Mourning for former President George H.W. Bush. Detroit and Ann Arbor VA clinical services, including all outpatient clinics, diagnostic and procedure areas, operating rooms, and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics will remain open for business as usual. VAAAHS works with Congressional Offices to assure safe, high-quality surgical care to area Veterans - On May 22, 2016 leaders from the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System met with U.S. Representatives Debbie Dingell and Tim Walberg to discuss the recent rescheduling on some surgical procedures in Ann Arbor. Mrs. Dingell and Mr. Walberg had the opportunity to meet with surgical and sterile processing staff to discuss the intermittent presence of sterile particulate in some surgical trays which has resulted in moving a limited number of surgeries to community partners, including the University of Michigan Health System. Ann Arbor VA to Host VA2K - VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) will host a 2K Walk and Roll on May 18, at 11:00 a.m. to encourage healthy activity while supporting homeless Veterans by donating food and clothing items. (05/09/2016)

VAAAHS Research Scientist Receives the AII Early Career Achievement Award - Dr. Christine Basmajian, a Research Scientist at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) and an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, has been selected by The American Thoracic Society (ATS) Assembly on Allergy, Immunology and Inflammation (AII) to receive the Early Career Achievement Award – recognized as a “rising star” with exemplary achievements in a scientific area of the Assembly, Dr. Basmajian clearly demonstrates promise for a future of sustained productivity. VAAAHS Recognized As A Leader In Equality - For the fourth year in a row, the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (VAAAHS) has been recognized as a “Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization. VAAAHS Physician Receives Top VA Award - Sanjay Saint, MD, MPH, Chief of Medicine at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, has been named the recipient of the Mark Wolcott Award for Excellence in Clinical Care Delivery by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Care model linked to improved Veteran care; more access, use of e-records, post hospital follow-up - Since 2010, shifts in care across the Department of Veteran Affairs’ 978 primary care sites were linked to a tenfold increase in telephone and online interactions between patients and providers, a rise in patient use of electronic personal health records from 3 percent to 13 percent, and an increase in nurse follow-up with patients within 48 hours post hospitalization from 7 percent to 61 percent. Shinseki. “If you are enrolled in VA health care, you do not need to take any additional steps to meet the health care law coverage standards. VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System Adopts New Medical Foster Home Program - VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is pleased to announce the development of the Medical Foster Home Program. A Medical Foster Home (MFH) is an Adult Foster Care Home combined with a VA interdisciplinary home care team to provide a safe, home-like environment and an economical long-term care alternative for Veterans who are unable to live independently.
