VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System

Spinal Cord Injury

About the Program

Established in 1989, the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Clinic at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is one of the largest SCI outpatient clinics in Veterans Integrated Service Network 11, and houses a variety of resources to ensure quality treatment for veteran patients.

Services Offered

Staff and physicians work closely with the spinal cord injured veteran, family members, and significant others to ensure the highest quality of care. We provide comprehensive primary care to all veterans with spinal cord dysfunction, have a specialized seating evaluation and wheelchair clinic, and an active research program focused on electrical stimulation for standing and walking for paraplegic veterans.

We assist the spinal cord injured patient to —

  • enhance his/her health
  • improve functional abilities
  • maintain a quality of life

These goals are met through patient education and participation in research.
